Problems on Trains
Questions on trains are solved on the concept of relative speed. Look below the different situations and see how to apply formula on problems on trains-
Problem on Trains Formula
A train of length L1 and running with speed S1. Time taken by the train to cross-
1. A pole (stationary object) = L1/S1
2. A running man with speed S2 in the same direction = L1/(S1 – S2)
3. A running man with speed S2 coming from opposite direction = L1/(S1 + S2)
4. A platform of length LP = S1 / LP
5. Another train of length L2 and speed S2 running in the same direction = (L1 + L2)/ (S1 - S2)
6. Another train of length L2 and speed S2 running in opposite direction = (L1 + L2)/ (S1 + S2)
Note: Km/hr x (5/18) = m/s OR m/s x (18/5) = Km/hr
